David Akers, president and CEO of LMS Solutions Inc., was named business star of the year during the recent PV Chamber Stars Gala, which is given to a person from a company of any size committed to programs that give back to the community. Their contributions may be personal or as part of company initiatives. “I’m very proud of the award, and I look at it as a recognition of the efforts that we’ve made to give back to the community, not just personally, but through our business,” he said.
Akers opened LMS Solutions in July 2011. It is a full-service marketing agency, specializing in working with small and medium-sized businesses and nonprofit organizations to off er a full catalog of marketing solutions. The company provides free website packages to needy, local area nonprofit organizations each year. Akers himself is a Rotarian, as well as an active member of the Chamber. He serves as the chairman of the board of directors and volunteers to facilitate the monthly Business Owner Roundtable sessions. He also donates his time to provide free seminars to local business owners through the chamber and the Pottstown SCORE chapter.
Giving back is a key part to his business, Akers said. “I’ve been in the business world for a very long time,” he said. “When I decided to open up my own business, part of that drive was to be more involved in the community and be able to give back. Besides the Chamber of Commerce, I’m also involved in Rotary Club and anything else I can find that is a way I can give back the knowledge that I learned over the years, as well as any services that we can. Besides the free package that we give away, we also discount our services to nonprofit organizations just to help them be able to do what they do for the community.” Winning the award was very humbling, Akers said. “There were other business people who were up in the same category, and to even be a finalist was rewarding enough, and to win was over the top,” he said
